Beating the Challenge of Dublin, Cork and Shannon
|
100% HBS projects for Dublin, Shannon and Cork airports have been successfully completed by the Logan Teleflex/LVP partnership despite tough building and timescale constraints.
By going live on time with the baggage screening installations in three of Ireland’s leading airports, Logan Teleflex have enabled airport operator, Aer-Rianta, to comply with the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC) end of year deadline for compliance.
The Dublin Airport redevelopment is located within the old part of the terminal and is adjacent to the six bay baggage system that was implemented by Logan Teleflex and LVP over two years ago.
Working within the space confines of the old building, the new 8 bay system, which supports some of the airport’s major airlines, consists of four islands of check-in conveyors supporting a total of 76 check-in positions. A single feed conveyor in each direction interlinks the 6 bay and 8 bay layouts.
Baggage is input into the HBS loop via two lines. Both connections are reversible for redundancy purposes and have the facility to allow load sharing, which can be enabled or disabled by the MIS operator. The HBS system is split into two identical systems, each of which has two x-ray screening lines.
At Shannon Airport, the HBS has been installed within an existing building behind the check-in area, and includes a single Out of Gauge input position that feeds bags to the x-ray machine used for level 3 screening. The system also has the facility for a single transfer line.
The HBS for Cork is also installed in an existing terminal building that has two separate check-in areas that support a total of 18 check-in desks. For the Cork project, Logan Teleflex supplied equipment, electrical installation, commissioning and project management.
