Logan Teleflex Celebrates a Golden Era
|
Achieving its 50th anniversary and reverting back to the popular “Logan” name has given leading baggage systems integrator, Logan Teleflex, double cause for celebration.
The company, which was formed in 1956 as Manufacturers Equipment Company Ltd., has achieved many "firsts" in the materials handling and airports sectors over five decades, and been instrumental in introducing leading edge technology to speed up and accurately sort parcels and passenger baggage.
Major achievements include the design and build of the first automatic check-in desks and bag sortation, using reclaim carousels at Gatwick South Terminal during the 1970's - and designing and manufacturing the first airport automatic Tilt Tray Sorter at Heathrow Terminal 1 in the mid 1980's. To this day, the latest generation Tilt Tray Sorter is the most advanced of its kind and at the forefront of airport technology.
Also, through development work at Glasgow Airport, the company was able to establish the principles for ‘in-line screening’ and the design of an online 100% Hold Baggage Screening (HBS) system. Today, Logan Teleflex has supplied and installed over 400 HBS systems in eighty countries around the world.
Mike Jeffery, Managing Director of Logan Teleflex, said: “We need to thank the people who have worked for this company over the past fifty years for creating a respected and market leader in the field of providing material handling systems to our global customers.”
Logan’s baggage systems operate at many UK and worldwide airports, from Humberside to Anchorage and from Nanjing to the Falkland Islands; collecting passenger bags from check-in desks and conveying them through x-ray machines, to sorting systems, where they are transported to the holds of departing aircraft.
This year alone, Logan Teleflex has supplied ground breaking and innovative solutions in Canada and Qatar. The company completed a £12 million contract to build and install a ‘forward looking’ Departures system for Montreal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport and was awarded a prestigious project to provide the first ‘working’ inline automatic security screening up to Level 3 in the Middle East, at Doha International Airport in Qatar.
