Logan Lands 100% HBS for Khartoum
Khartoum International Airport has gone live with new check-in Departures and Arrivals baggage handling systems, including 100% HBS (Hold Baggage Screening) as part of the airport’s recent refurbishment programme.

The Sudan Civil Aviation Authority selected leading baggage systems integrator, Logan Teleflex, to provide both the Departures and Arrivals systems, equipment, installation, controls and training, as two separate projects. The Departures system, which went live in September 2006 in the new Departures Terminal, feeds off 20 two-stage check-in positions and handles baggage at Levels 1 & 2 and to Level 3 screening. The HBS, incorporating standard four queue conveyors prior to x-ray screening and secondary bag separation, is fully integrated with the main baggage system.

Configured for multiple bag transactions, the Departures baggage management uses Logan’s Windows Reservation software to control the flow of baggage, from input at the check-in points, through to the main handling area.

The conveyor system itself was built using the latest Logan Teleflex manufactured baggage technology, including Weigh/Label and Despatch conveyors, Model 571 Belt and Queue conveyors – with automatic baggage separation and over-height detection - and horizontal baggage make-up conveyors. Logan Teleflex products are built to ensure standardised production and a high standard of reliability - a necessity, considering the conveyors form the backbone of Khartoum’s baggage handling system.

The Arrivals area features two Logan manufactured M688 Horizontal Overlapping Slat Carousels and control systems.
