Logan Teleflex Wins Baggage Handling Contract for New Anchorage Terminal
Logan Teleflex's United States subsidiary, Logan Teleflex Inc., has been awarded a contract to design and install a baggage handling system for Anchorage International Airport’s new Concourse ‘C’ which is due to open in 2004.

Working for main contractor Kiewit Construction Company Inc., and in conjunction with CNA - the airport owner’s design team - Logan Teleflex Inc. will design the system to handle rising levels of passenger traffic due to major growth of tourism in the State of Alaska, fast baggage throughput - and to incorporate the future addition of 100% Hold Baggage Screening (HBS).

Anchorage’s new Concourse C will feature an additional 60 check-in desks (plus a curbside check-in point) and two outbound make-up carousels with a flight number based sort system to feed the bags to the correct carousel. Baggage throughput will be rated at 80 bags per minute (bpm) to meet future HBS requirements with a peak feed rate of 65 bpm to each carousel.

An On-Line system will be installed to handle the transfer of baggage between flights. For inbound traffic, there will be two arrivals carousels with an allowance for a third, future carousel.

Mike Jeffery, Managing Director of Logan Teleflex (UK) Ltd., said: “Anchorage is a challenging project and demands the very best of our baggage handling technology and systems integration skills. We have installed baggage systems to meet various requirements at some 200 airports around the world. We are now beginning to make our mark for providing baggage systems to US airports that incorporate the very best in screening technology.”
